The word Detroit is synonymous with automotive industry. Rightly so, because this city is home to the once leading manufacturers of cars: Ford, General Motors, Chrysler (now DaimlerChrysler, etc. Now it is home to other foreign manufacturers of cars such as Nissan and Suzuki. That is not all to Detroit.
Over the years, it has emerged as an area which now encompasses sunrise industries like biochemistry, drugs (not opiates, please), bioinformatics, genetic technology and so on.
For visitors, who come for pleasure, it has also a wealth of history of the USA, and reflects in a large measure the French culture, Italian culture etc. To its north is Canada, and Detroit is the favored land route to Canada. There are a number of colleges and schools, as also medical institutions which have significantly contributed to the cosmopolitan nature of the city.
Given its commercial nature, and closeness to Canada, Detroit is well served by flights from practically all over the globe. Detroit flights are operated by most well established airlines, like British Airways, American Airlines, Lufthansa, Air Canada. |
